Activity: I Love Myself
Purpose: To improve the Self Esteem of the Adolescent Girls
Life Skills Taught: Self Awareness andEmpathy

In this activity, girls were asked to write their positive qualities on the front side of the plate. Their friends would write their positive qualities at the backside of the paper plate.


Activity: Lecture
Purpose: To understand the Concepts of 10 Life skills and each Life Skill in detail
Life Skills Taught: All 10 Life Skills

PowerPoint presentations were made during lecture session, illustration and practical examples were given to make the girls to understand the concepts.


Activity: Group Discussion-15 uses of paper
Purpose: To work effectively in social institutions like family, school, college etc...
Life Skills Taught: Communication, creative thinking, problem solving

Activities involved writing the fifteen uses of any given object like paper, cartoon boxes and trying to find out the different qualities of a given item.


Activity: Balloon Activity- Keep the balloon up
Purpose: To understand the importance of group work, team effort
Life Skills Taught: Communication Skills, Interpersonal Relationships

This activity was given as an energizer where the students were grouped, each group has to keep the given balloon up in the air by blowing only (they should not use their hands). The girls enjoyed the activity very much. It also helped them to understand the importance of group work.


Activity: A Hundred Words...
Purpose: To understand the importance of empathy
Life Skills Taught: Empathy, Communication Skills, Interpersonal Relationships

In this activity, each group was given a poster (collection of pictures with different mood), like beggar girl, obese ladies, air-crash, flood and flags on the face. The girls were asked to select any of the picture and write a paragraph about the particular picture. This helped them to think about the sufferings of other people in their difficult time.


Activity: Media’s effect on us.
Purpose: To analyse the situation/issue critically
Life Skills Taught: Critical thinking, Creative thinking, Communication Skills, Interpersonal Relationships

In this activity the students were grouped and provided with a magazine, a topic, stationary and a chart paper. They have to find out the relevant pictures, matter from the magazine, cut it, paste it on the given chart and present it to the audience. The girls participated enthusiastically. Few of the topics given were: it is possible, have a hobby, healthy food, today’s women, stress in today’s lifestyle, happy motherhood.


Activity: Role play
Purpose: To say ‘NO’ assertively
Life Skills Taught: Critical thinking, Communication Skills, Interpersonal Relationships

In this activity, students were grouped and given with a situation for which they have to find out the suitable response and act out the role play. This helped them to improve their communication skills, ‘IPR’ and critical thinking. Few of the Situations are:

Situation

You have a friend of opposite sex. You are very clear about the relationship with him. For the past few days, you could sense some change in his behaviour. He is forcing you to meet him alone in the absence of his parents.

Situation

Your friend have very good relationships with Your relatives. They all visit your home frequently. You have a male relative who is uncle by relation. Your family members respect him a lot. He pats on your back, touches you which you are not comfortable with.


Activity: Chinese whisper
Purpose: To understand how the messages get distorted when it passes through people
Life Skills Taught: Communication skills, IPR, coping with emotion.

The class was divided into three group. The first person from each group was called out and they were given with the message “today, it is my big brother’s birthday. We went to church this morning. My mother will make dosa, cake, fruit chat and lassi for the evening party”. Then they have to pass this message to their group members only by whispering into their ears. The last person who received the message was called out separately and asked to write the received message. They all came with different messages by leaving out the given information. This was given to understand how the message or information is getting distorted when it pass through people.
